As for testing, start out as the diagram shows. But I have no ideas on how to replicate the end results of the myth.
i.e. A cooked egg

Uh, toss it in a microwave oven?  After all, cell phones and microwave ovens work in approximately the same frequency range (I don't remember the exact frequency of a microwave oven but it is close to 2.4GHz).  On a related note, at one time there as was a genuine scare that as computer processors increased in speed they would require microwave oven-like shielding to protect the user.   Today's processors are well past that point and as far as I know no one has experienced cooked brain cells unless you attribute forum addiction as a form of brain damage.

Not with a bang, nor a whimper... but a giggle.

The power that goes through a processor isn't nearly enough to emit a wave that could be damaging. Cell phones give off more power, but not nearly enough to cook an egg. Microwave magnetrons are able to put out that much power, which is why they are shielded.

An unplugged micro-wave can make a dandy miniature improvised Faraday cage, by the way. Not as effective as the real thing, but pretty close.
