Sorry, but your two news story links don't relate to the myth per se. No one has information on how the man was hit, what angle he was hit from, or indeed, whether the police shots were fired directly upwards or even if the police bullets are the cause of his injuries.
It was stated on the show over and over... shots fired at an angle can and have killed. Shots fired directly upwards so that the bullets go straight up, lose all momentum, and FALL back to earth at their own terminal velocity is the Myth. That was busted, and until someone shows evidance to the contrary, stays busted.
